Police found a horrific scene when they entered into an apartment of a man to do a welfare check, police in Australia said. Norlane police said that the 49-year-old man was last seen alive four weeks ago.
The man's body had been severely mutilated by his starving dog that was trapped inside with the dead owner. Police officers had been called to the house on Sparks Street on Tuesday, after neighbors reported persistent barking of a dog.
It is not known exactly when the man died, and an autopsy will be performed to determine when and why he died. The man lived alone, and was last seen alive four weeks ago.
He had not been reported missing. There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. The dog has been detained by animal control officers.
